This month I was doing a little bit of organizing in my closet and I noticed I had a few of the Jewel Mint boxes sitting around. While I was thinking about what to do with them, I noticed that my earrings were being stored in several places and I wanted to consolidate them while making them easy to access. A light bulb went off when I thought of converting the Jewel mint boxes into a stackable earring holder.
Here is my step by step process which did not take me very long at all. If you have any spare boxes lying around and have a need for a jewelry box, this might be a fun DIY project for you.
I took one of the foam lining from the box...
And then cut it up into sections. I accounted for studs my longer earrings so I cut the foam into the following parts. If you have more stud earrings you can do more of the thinner sections to create more rows.
Next, I glued the sections onto a piece of fabric and made sure to space the foam sections so that I could tuck the excess fabric in to create a holder for the earrings.
I folded the excess fabric in on the sides tucked them in along the sides for the following result:
Here is how the earrings look inside the box. Not too shabby right?
One thing I want to point out is that if you have a light colored fabric (like I did) the glue will seep through. However, depending on the glue, when it dries, there might not be a change in the fabric color. I did not have a glue gun so ended up using the white glue I had at home. Since we're using fabric...fabric glue probably would have been a better option.
This is a very easy project that you can finish very quickly. All you need is a box, fabric, foam and some glue. You can also make personalized jewelry boxes your friends as a present too if you find pretty antique boxes or tins.
What kind of DIY projects have you done recently?
